our farm csa

Last year, as in many years past, we also raised five pigs for family and friends. One of those was a sow, named Winky by our granddaughter, which we decided to overwinter for breeding. We found Winky a mate, Dinky, and we expect to have a batch of piglets to raise or sell by the first of June. This will be the start of a new phase of our operation - a meat CSA (Community Supported Agriculture – a system where members pay the farmer in advance for scheduled delivery of various farm products ducksthroughout the season).

We will offer three options:
BASIC POULTRY SHARE
The basic poultry share will provide you with a fresh chicken (3-1/2 to 4-lbs average)  and a dozen eggs every two weeks beginning June 15th through September 15th (a total of 7 birds and 7 dozen eggs. ) for $125. If you decide that you really like eating our chickens and eggs you can buy more than one share.

FALL FREEZER SPECIAL
Option #2 is our fall freezer special which includes 10 chickens, a 20-lb turkey, and a 40-lb box of selected prime pork cuts (our choice) including slab bacon, a smoked ham, chops, roasts and ribs and sausage for $510.

WHOLE OR HALF PIG
Option #3 is to buy a whole pig at $5.00/lb or a half pig at $5.25/lb hanging weight  (carcass less organs, head, feet, tail and skin, approximately 150 lbs). This price includes costs of slaughter, cutting to your specifications, and wrapping. If you want your hams, hocks, and bacon smoked, add 50¢/lb to the hanging weight price. Pickup will be at the Farm in late October with hams and bacon ready in an additional two to three weeks. You can opt for any combination of our packages and we can also put together custom pork/egg/poultry packages to suit your needs and preferences, including split-but not cut whole pork carcasses. Contact us for prices on custom packages. All pork will be USDA inspected. Poultry (whole birds only) are slaughtered and processed on our farm and therefore sold as “Exempt per 6 VSA §3312(b): Not Inspected.”

Eventually we hope to offer ground turkey and turkey sausage. Click on the links for order forms and cut lists. If you prefer pot-luck to the security of a CSA, you can call and arrange to drive out to the farm and buy whatever we have available or even order a few birds in advance. If you are a restaurant customer, contact us for wholesale prices and to set up regular weekly deliveries throughout the season for chicken and other poultry.
